Deadly Explosions Hit Tianjin's Port China

Distress have risen in the north-east city of Tianjin when an unexpected explosion rocked one the cities warehouses on Wednesday killing at least 44 people, injuring at least 400, shattering glass on scores of high-rise buildings and causing other extensive damage.

This incident took place at the later hours of the day around 10:30pm, the force of the blasts was registered on an earthquake scales and was felt miles away.
this this morning the number of reports of missing people keeps coming and as the wreckage is being lifted, some dead bodies surfaces.The Tijani Police had reported that over 32 people have been saved under the wreckage and most of them are in critical conditions and are receiving medical attentions, he said that six firefighters are among them. The death toll is expected to rise by tomorrow continued the police report.


Some video clips of the blast has been released on the internet showing a bight light of a mushroom cloud illuminating the darkness of the city. The most popular videos and pictures of the incident on the internet was posted by the State newspaper and the Peoples daily showed the picture of a man knocked down by the air pressure at the blast site.

30 year old truck driver Han tao reported as an eye witness, he said “The blast pressure was so strong, it just knocked straight to the ground”.  The eye witness lives on the 13th floor of a building downtown, east from the blast site.

A report from a resident Mr. Wang Dong said that the explosion vibrated the whole floors of his apartment and at a point seemed to have a special connection to the sewage pipes underground. He said "the whole sky appeared to be like daytime"

According to Xinjua, the blast first occurred at a warehouse in the Binhai district of Tiajin at the late hours of 11:30. after about 30 minutes later, The authorities reported that a second blast even more powerful than the first one occurred recording on the scale an equivalent of 21 tons of TNT.

Report made by the police in Tianjin said that the explosion took place at a warehouse owned by Rui Hai International Logistics, a private company that was licensed to handle hazardous cargo. A reporter stated that the company’s top official was detained for questioning. Company officials could not immediately be reached early Thursday.

Controversies has risen over the real cause of the explosion as there are lots of explosibles well and protectively packed in the ware house, and the probability of the explosion occurring unignited is rare but there is still no proof of an intentional induction of the blast.

Reports have suggested that the explosion was caused by a blaze inside the warehouse and that firefighters had arrived to prevent it from getting out of hand before the explosion occurred 40 minutes later. Three of the firefighters were killed at the instant while over six fire trucks were set ablaze causing more commotions.

The clinic closest to the scene is the Taida Medical Center this med. center have been flooded by people with different degrees of injuries and seriousness, most of them caused by the cuts of Flying glass materials and other debris sent from the blast. The hospital wards are completely filled and tents are being made at the parking lots to treat more of the injured.

Death toll keeps rising at every hour both from the hospitals and from the blast sites as wreakages are being lifted, early report have reported about 11 other missing firefighters.

As the darkness begins to shade and dawn approaches, a black spray of smoke hung over the city. Residents began to come out of their houses to see for themselves what had caused the quake the previous night. Injured people were released from the Hospital and they were giving disposable masks to prevent excessive inhalation of the smoky atmosphere.

Glass scattered all over the ground, different heights of story buildings were blown in and curtains fluttered eerily through the jagged openings. The tires of cars on the street were flat, and the side of a shipping container was pressed in as if a giant had pushed it in with a thumb.

A temporary prefabricated structure containing over 200 men collapsed causing scores of injury, 65 year old Su Zhaoquing who was among the deceased said he was lying in the lower bunk of the bed when the structure collapsed.
They were members of a construction company who slept in their work site in the tent like structure until their work is completed.

Su reported “Everything just fell on my face, but I managed to crawl out,” Su's head were wrapped in a blood-soaked bandage.

Over 400 Tianjin residents that morning had lined up to donate blood at the Fifth Center Hospital. To help increase the survival rate. A taxi driver taped a message to his rear window offering rides to the families of the victims.

The Chinese Earthquake Administration had recorded the magnitude of the first and second blasts as 2.3 and 2.9 MGT respectively.
