The president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has once again repelled the
push towards the issue of legalising the gay right in Nigeria. This time
the proposal was from the American president Mr Barack Obama on his
visit to America.
President Buhari rejected this advice
with the words that "the act of homophobism is against the culture of
his people they forbid it and as such, it is immoral". A Nigerian news-man Femi Adesina who went on this trip with the president reported that
the president made the whole matter short and didn't want to give hope
of any future considerations and just went point blank with his words.
Femi
released this information on his twitter page on Monday according to
him " the issue of gay marriage was discussed during President
Buhari’s meeting in the US but he rejected the offer when brought
forward, stating that sodomy is not acceptable in Nigeria".
On
further clarifications, Mr. Adesina said that the issue was not brought
up in a direct talk with the US president but during a joint session of
senate and the house committees on international affairs. The matter was
not pushed further and was shifted aside once PMB made his point. It
was never brought up again.
He said "The gay right marriage agenda was made a topic at the joint session of Senate and
House Committees on international Affairs, not in a one on one talk with The president of America Mr. Barack Obama".
