Britian Sends Extra Military Personnel To Nigeria

The British government have made ready 35 personnel from the 2nd battalion of the Royal Anglian regiment to move down to Nigeria to deliver training to Nigerian military. This is part of the British governments assistance in helping to counter the terror attack on the disturbed northern part of the nation.

The UK military training team will join over 100 personnel deployed to Nigeria in 2015 to train local forces. with several batches expected in the course of the year, to get the number up to as promised in December 2015 by the UK defense secretary Micheal Fallon.

This new incoming battalion is expected to concentrate their training on countering and detonating of improvised explosive devices, medical training and advice and advanced training of the Nigerian air force in airfield defense and counter insurgency.


According to report up to 1000 Nigerian military personnel are said to have benefited from the training which started in 2015 in preparation for counter insurgency operations in the northern Nigeria. The defense secretary in December unveiled that the military trainers will commence there exercise in 2016 starting with the main training which is "unraveling improvised explosive devices (IEDs)".

Mr Fallon also said that the British government has tightened their legislation and would work with Nigerian government to improve the  procurement and tender process of military equipment to ensure transparency and competitiveness. The president of Nigeria Muhammad Buhari had told Mr Fallon that his administration will take urgent and appropriate actions to restore order, due process and probity to the procurement processes of the nations armed forces.
