Hollywood Affiliates With The Nigerian Film Industry "Nollywood"

There seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for the Nigerian film industry as there American inspired counterpart set to partner with the Nigerian Nollywood in its production of movies, copyright protection service, co production distribution and in other fields concerned all aimed at the development of the Nigeria Nollywood.

The American Ambassador Mr. Charles Rivkin is meeting with the director of the third largest movie industry in the world Mr. Afam on a meeting aimed at dealing efficiently with the challenges facing the industry.

The ambassador who was also the US Ambassador to France said that he had come to invest in the most progressive sectors in the country and of which the entertainment sector has made the top of his list on his cart and had promised to affiliate with the industry to counter the worm of piracy which is the major problem facing the entertainment industry in Nigeria.

According to the Ambassador, “My visit to this nation today will be a long line of engagements with my country USA. In coming years and am sure there will be several other opportunities to deal, on mutual interests. We will look at the issue of affiliate-production treaties between USA and Nigeria, getting Nigeria to ratify and domesticate relevant World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) treaties for the protection of Intellectual Properties especially those online.

Mr. Rivkins also said that this decision will lead to getting big US production studios to invest in Nollywood particularly in the areas of cinemas and other forms of distribution in conjunction with bodies like Netflix and the others.

The director Actors Guild of Nigeria director Mr. smith Anyanwu couldn't make it to the meeting and his representative Mr. Charles Ibe missed his flight to the meeting. Nevertheless, the meeting commenced. The attendants included Alex Eyengho, Zik Zulu Okafor (President, Association of Movie Producers, AMP), Adeyinka Oduniyi, Gab Okoye, alias Igwe Gabosky, Andy Amenechi (President, Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN) and Nobert Ajaegbu (chairman, Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN).

Ambassador Rivkin is scheduled to stay three days in Nigeria. Anyways, before the meeting he had met with the President, the NCC (Nigerian Copyright Comission) director, the TPDR (Trademark Patents and Designs Registry) chairperson, the EFCC executives and NAFDAC assistant president. Rivkins had been a friend to the industry as this is not his first visit to the industry currently, he is an executive in the Jim Hensons Production company aka MUPPETS DOVE.
